The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has paid all farmers that supplied their crops during this year’s crop marketing season that closed on October, 31, 2023.
FRA Public Relations Coordinator, John Chipandwe, said a total of K1,943,195,420 was paid to farmers countrywide that supplied crops to the Agency.
Chipandwe made the announcement in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday.
He said from the total amount paid out, K1,942,776, 920 was paid to farmers that supplied Grade A white maize while the balance went to farmers that supplied other crops.
“This implies that the Agency during this year’s crop marketing season purchased a total of 6,938,489 x 50kg,” Chipandwe stated
He emphasized that if there were any farmers that had not yet received their payment, they should visit designated banks in their areas and collect their money.
“During this year’s crop marketing season, the Agency operated a total of 1,301 satellite depots countrywide compared to 1,208 depots that were operational last year representing a 7.7 percent increase,” Chipandwe said.
He observed that as a result, the agency created more marketing and employment opportunities for the rural communities.
Chipandwe is optimistic that the timely payments made to farmers would facilitate adequate preparations for this year’s farming season, stimulate rural economies and spur development in rural communities.
“In conclusion, the Agency is grateful to all farmers that supplied their crops as their decision will go a long way in sustaining National Food security,” he said.
