Thieves burgle Kaoma Makasa Health Centre, cart away drugs, medical equipment

Unknown people have broken into Kaoma Makasa rural health centre in Chipili district of Luapula Province and made away with medical supplies.

Items stolen include two delivery packs, eight boxes of coartem, one box of gentamicin, one Bp machine and five boxes of zinnia.

Others are four boxes of RDT test kits, one tin of flagyl, seven Ampsules, 120mg of Artesun and one tin of Doxyl, among other assortment of drugs.

Lupaula Police Chief Fwambo Siame confirmed in a statement on Friday that the thieves broke in through the back window.

“Facts of the matter were that on the material day two nurses who were on duty left the facility after admitting to three patients and around 22:30 hours they went back to the facility to administer injections to the patients,” he said.

Siame said after checking the cupboard, they found that the mentioned medicines were missing.

Police have since visited the crime scene and investigations are ongoing, with no arrests made.

Value of the stolen items is yet to be ascertained.
