Breaking! Violence erupts in Chingola as illegal miners torch machinery at copper dump site

Illegal miners have reportedly set machinery ablaze during violent protests in Chingola, following efforts to evict them from the Sensele copper dump site.

According to eyewitnesses, the riots began in the early hours of Wednesday after a deadline issued by the site’s alleged owner for the miners to vacate the area elapsed. The identity of the owner has not yet been officially established.

The situation in Chingola is said to be tense, with police deployed to restore order. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
