Police in Lusaka have charged and arrested Abigail Kalyabanyama, 26, of Nyumba Yanga, in connection with an attempted murder case reported to Woodlands Police Station on July 27, 2025, around 01:00 hours.
The case was reported by Brigadier General David Kauseni (Retired) of Makeni on behalf of his brother, Brigadier General John Banda (Retired), 53, of Chalala.
Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
Investigations revealed that Banda sustained two gunshot wounds to the back of the head in an incident that occurred on July 26, 2025, around 23:40 hours behind Crossroads Mall in Kabulonga.

Earlier that day, around 17:00 hours, Banda picked up Kalyabanyama, described as his female companion, from Nyumba Yanga and the pair drove to Palabana.
“At about 23:30 hours, while on their way back to drop her home, the two had a disagreement,” Chilabi said.
Upon reaching Crossroads Mall, Banda allegedly parked the vehicle and refused to proceed until the matter was resolved.
After a brief altercation outside the vehicle, Banda retrieved his firearm and fired at Kalyabanyama, missing her but hitting the car.
“She then grabbed the firearm and allegedly shot the victim twice in the back of the head, causing him to collapse,” Chilabi stated.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found both the suspect and the victim present.
Banda was lying in a pool of blood beside a loaded pistol, with spent cartridges nearby.
He was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where he remains admitted in stable condition.
Kalyabanyama is in custody and is expected to appear in court soon for attempted murder, contrary to Section 215(b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
