Yango Zambia, part of the global tech company Yango Group, celebrated International Youth Day by partnering with award-winning gospel artist Esther Chungu to give back to Matero Girls Secondary School, the school she attended in her formative years.

The team consisting of Esther, Yango executives and STEM Fellows, took turns to speak to the girls about preparing for tertiary education, choosing the right career paths, and taking the necessary steps to achieve their goals.

They also donated essential educational materials including scientific calculators and mathematical sets to the students.

As part of this year’s celebration, which was under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond, ” a representative from the United Nations delivered a presentation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how students can play their part in creating meaningful change.

Speaking to the students, Esther Chungu reflected on her journey from a Matero teenager to a celebrated artist and role model:

“Your choices now will shape your future. Stay focused, especially as young girls. Enjoy your youth, but set boundaries and keep your goals in mind. Whether you want to be an artist, lawyer, or doctor, education is key. I’ve been where you are but I learned from my mother’s example to work hard and not take shortcuts.” She also praised Yango’s dedication to youth empowerment:

“Opportunities like the Yango Fellowship can change your life. I’m so grateful to Yango for making this happen and allowing me to speak life into the next generation.”

Yango Zambia Country Head, Kabanda Chewe, shared how this visit aligns with the company’s vision: “For us at Yango, community is at the heart of everything we do.

Partnering with Esther to return to her former school is a reminder that when we combine resources, talent, and purpose, we can create real change.

Education empowers young people to write their own futures, and Yango will continue to stand alongside schools and communities to make that possible.”

Yango remains deeply committed to serving communities across Zambia.

This dedication is reflected in initiatives like the Yango Fellowship, which provides university scholarships, and Yango Education, a program designed to support schools, empower learners, and create long-term opportunities for young people.

By combining technology with community investment, Yango continues to demonstrate that its mission extends beyond transportation — it’s about helping people and communities thrive.
