The Zambia Premier League (ZPL) has reportedly signed a five-year broadcasting deal with TopStar Communications Limited valued at about US$5 million.

Reports indicate that under the agreement, ZPL is expected to receive around US$1 million per season, with an additional K960,000 said to be set aside to sponsor the annual ZPL awards.

According to Head of Communication, Christina Zulu, the deal is said to
cover only the MTN Super League, with matches lined up for broadcast on their platforms.

The partnership is also said to hold promises of extending the visibility of Zambian football into East Africa, West Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

ZPL is reportedly in line to benefit from a share of advertising revenue and 80% of income generated from additional business TopStar secures, though details on how much will reach Super League clubs remain undisclosed.

The official launch is expected on September 5, 2025, while the arrangement is set to take effect in the second week of the MTN Super League.

Previously, Supersport held the broadcasting rights at about US$1 million per season, but that deal expired last season and was not renewed.

ZPL Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Chimpampwe, reportedly described the agreement as a step that could improve fan access and create commercial and sponsorship opportunities. Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Keith Mweemba, was quoted as saying the partnership opens up a new phase for local football broadcasting.

He further noted that the deal did not completely close out other players in the market, adding that issues of exclusivity would be handled in line with the Competition and Consumer Protection Act No. 24 of 2010.
