MISA Zambia has expressed confidence that the newly appointed Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Webster Malido, will be a formidable advocate for media freedom and freedom of expression in Zambia backed by his a strong background in media.
The IBA Board on Wednesday announced the appointment of Malido as the new Director General, succeeding Guntila Muleya who was murdered.
MISA Zambia Chairperson, Lorraine Mwanza Chisanga, stated that Malido’s leadership came at a crucial time when safeguarding these freedoms was essential to sustaining democracy and promoting transparent governance.
“MISA Zambia is confident that Mr. Malido will contribute significantly to the realization of the IBA’s vision while also playing a pivotal role in protecting and promoting the rights and welfare of the media in Zambia.
“We wish him great success in his new role and look forward to continued collaboration in the advancement of a free, independent, and professional media environment,” Chisanga said in a statement issued on Thursday.
She noted that with over 20 years of professional expertise spanning journalism, corporate communication, and governance, Malido brought a unique blend of skills to this important role.
She added that his extensive experience in the financial services and development finance sectors across various African markets further strengthened his capacity to lead the IBA effectively.
“We warmly welcome Mr. Malido’s appointment, recognizing his wealth of experience and deep understanding of the media landscape,” Chisanga said.
