PF’s Mwamba accuses UPND media director of double standards over alleged threat to priest

Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Mwamba, has accused UPND Media Director, Mark Simuuwe, of double standards following alleged threats against Catholic Priest Father Oscar Pombo, who is based in Italy.

Simuuwe was reported in the media as condemning and threatening Father Pombo over his reported remarks and contributions on the Emmanuel Mwamba Verified (EMV) podcast.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Mwamba described Simuuwe’s alleged threats as empty and reflective of political double standards, noting that Pombo had previously been a strong critic of the PF and former President Edgar Lungu.

“Why didn’t Simuuwe stop or threaten Father Oscar Mwansa Pombo when he openly ‘campaigned’ for President Hakainde Hichilema in Opposition?” he questioned.

Mwamba said that Pombo, popularly known as DonOscar, condemned wrongdoing, exposed corruption, denounced misrule, and spoke against abuses of human rights and the law.

He added that, like many Catholic priests, Pombo advocated for social justice and demanded the protection of human rights.

“These are the evils that Fr Pombo speaks against! Sadly, President Hakainde Hichilema is guilty of these transgressions and has therefore met the sharp tongue of the man of the cloth who has consistently fought for justice,” Mwamba claimed.

He urged Simuuwe to desist from issuing threats or attacks against men of God seeking truth, justice, and good governance.
