Government says it has signed contracts worth K277,934,804 to complete district hospitals and nurses’ flats across the Copperbelt, Southern, North-Western and Western Provinces.

Health Minister, Dr. Elijah Muchima, made this known during a ceremony held in Lusaka on Friday.

Muchima said the Ministry had, in 2024, also moved to complete earlier pending projects.

“In 2024 my Ministry embarked on the completion of the following projects namely Ikelenge District Hospital, Mwinilunga District Hospital, Mufulira District Hospital, Kalomo District Hospital, Luangwa District Hospital, Mkushi District Hospital, Mongu District Hospital and Choma District Hospital,” he said.

Muchima said the projects were at different stages of completion, with several expected to be finished before the end of the year, while others should be completed in the first month of 2025.

He noted that government had allocated financial resources to conclude the long-stalled projects and would ensure prudent and transparent use of the funds.

“Furthermore, we will continue to support our sister Ministry—the Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development—through the Department of Public Infrastructure, to ensure timely delivery, budget adherence, and uncompromising quality standards for the benefit of our citizens,” Muchima stated.

He urged contractors to execute the works diligently, assuring them that payments would be made as stipulated in their contracts.

“We are confident that you will deliver these projects within the stipulated time period, at the agreed price and with the highest quality for the benefit of the people of Zambia,” he said.
