The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Mexican football expert, Sergio Fentanes Orozco, as Technical Analyst and Advisor for the Chipolopolo’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 campaign currently underway in Morocco.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, FAZ General Secretary, Machacha Shepande, said the appointment was a short-term engagement aligned specifically with the AFCON tournament and aimed at strengthening the national team’s technical preparation and match analysis.
According to Shepande, Fentanes joined the Chipolopolo camp shortly after the team arrived in Casablanca and has already begun working with the technical staff.
“In our continued efforts to enhance the Chipolopolo technical structure during the AFCON tournament, FAZ has engaged Sergio Fentanes Orozco as Technical Analyst and Advisor for the competition taking place in Morocco from December 19, 2025 to January 18, 2026,” Shepande said.
He stressed that the appointment did not undermine FAZ’s policy of developing and trusting local coaches, but was meant to provide additional technical support at a major tournament where detailed tactical assessment and opposition analysis are critical.
Shepande highlighted Fentanes’ long-standing association with Zambian football, noting that he previously worked with the senior national team during the 2006 AFCON in Egypt and the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.
Fentanes was also part of the technical team that guided Zambia’s Under-17 side to qualification for the 2015 CAF U-17 AFCON finals in Niger.
Beyond Zambia, Fentanes has served in technical and analytical roles with the national teams of Peru and Mexico, experience FAZ believes will add value to match preparation and in-game decision-making.
Shepande expressed confidence that Fentanes’ expertise will enhance tactical planning and performance evaluation as he works alongside the local technical bench led by Moses Sichone throughout Zambia’s AFCON 2025 campaign.
Zambia is targeting a competitive showing at the continental tournament as the Chipolopolo pursue success in Morocco.
