Enzo Maresca has departed his position as Chelsea head coach after spending 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian coach leaves following a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy and a disappointing run of form, which has seen Chelsea manage just one win in their last seven Premier League matches.
Sky sports reports that the slump has left the club 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Chelsea are expected to appoint a new head coach within the coming days.
Among the leading candidates is Liam Rosenior, who currently manages Strasbourg, a club owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s BlueCo group, which also owns Chelsea.
Maresca’s departure means Chelsea will be searching for their fourth permanent manager since the club was acquired by American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital in May 2022.
Appointed in June 2024, Maresca enjoyed early success, guiding Chelsea to victories in the Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League.
He also led the club to a fourth-place Premier League finish last season, securing qualification for the Champions League.
However, tensions between Maresca and senior club figures have been evident since last year.
His failure to attend a post-match press conference following Tuesday’s chaotic 2-2 draw with Bournemouth — officially attributed to illness — was widely viewed as another indication of ongoing internal issues at the club.
