Former PF Copperbelt chairperson, Mwale, joins UPND, blames internal squabbles

Former Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt chairperson, Sturdy Mwale, has joined the United Party for National Development(UPND), citing internal wrangles in the former ruling party.

Mwale announced his decision during a public rally in Kitwe’s Ndeke Township on Sunday, presided over by Copperbelt UPND chairperson Elisha Matambo.

He said the UPND had become the “party of choice,” praising what he described as notable achievements over the last four years.

“President Hakainde Hichilema and the ruling UPND have performed wonders since assuming office in 2021; they deserve support from Zambians,” said Mwale, who once served as Defence Permanent Secretary.

He added that after witnessing what he called massive development in the education and health sectors, he could “no longer pretend” and felt compelled to join what he termed the “winning party.”

Mwale urged PF members to begin aligning themselves with the ruling party, which he described as the only progressive political formation at present.

Meanwhile, Matambo claimed more than 3,000 opposition members had recently defected to the UPND.

“Apart from the big wigs, we are receiving more than 3,000 members in Kitwe who have come to join us. This party is growing from strength to strength,” he claimed.
