President Hakainde Hichilema has called on cooperating partners to uphold a rules-based international order to promote global peace, safeguard mutual interests, and secure a shared future for all nations.

Speaking at State House in Lusaka on Wednesday, President Hichilema said countries must look out for one another and understand each other’s needs, interests, and aspirations to prevent conflicts and foster global harmony.

The President made the remarks while receiving Letters of Credence from six newly accredited Heads of Missions.

He received credentials from Cyprian John Luhemeja, Tanzanian High Commissioner to Zambia; Indonesian Ambassador to Zambia Arief Hidayat, resident in Harare, Zimbabwe; and Greece Ambassador to Zambia Anna Farrou, also resident in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Also accredited were Anne Sofie Bjelland, Ambassador of Norway to Zambia with residence in Lilongwe, Malawi; Sara Valdes Bolano, Ambassador of Mexico to Zambia with residence in Pretoria, South Africa; and Edwige Koumby Missambo, Gabonese Ambassador to Zambia with residence in Luanda, Angola.

“In an increasingly digital world, countries should be brought closer together through shared interests and mutual benefits,” President Hichilema said.

He reiterated that peace, security and stability remained a key pillar of Zambia’s foreign policy and urged all nations to intensify efforts to promote and preserve peace, noting that countries are increasingly becoming interdependent.

On economic diplomacy, the President stressed that peaceful environments were critical for increased trade and investments among countries.

Hichilema welcomed the newly accredited ambassadors and high commissioner and expressed Zambia’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation.

He further encouraged countries without resident diplomatic missions in Zambia to consider opening missions in Lusaka to facilitate closer ties and interactions.
