Nkombo loses race to Parliament, claims votes stolen

Former Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament, Gary Nkombo, says democracy, not the people, was the biggest loser in the 2026 general elections, alleging that the will of voters was overturned despite supporters turning out in large numbers to cast their ballots.

Addressing supporters after the announcement of the results, Nkombo praised voters for turning out in large numbers and said they had fulfilled their democratic duty.

“Once again, I want to say this to you: you did your part and you did it well. You voted, you turned up in numbers,” he said.

He, however, alleged that the election outcome did not reflect the will of the people, claiming the vote had been stolen.

“You won, but the vote was stolen. So you haven’t lost anything. In my place, I think it is democracy that has lost,” he said.

Despite his disappointment, Nkombo urged his supporters to remain calm and await future developments.

“Let everyone’s face come and wait for what is going to come next,” he said.

Encouraging his supporters not to lose hope, he described the election as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

“It is always good to know that every finishing line is the beginning of a new race,” he said.

The remarks came after he lost the Mazabuka Central parliamentary seat in the August 13 general elections.
