The Electoral Commission of Zambia has released official presidential results from four more constituencies, with President Hakainde Hichilema taking the lead in three of them.
According to results announced by Returning Officers, President Hichilema polled 6,568 votes in Chisamba Constituency of Chisamba District and his closest challenger, Brian Mundubile, obtained 3,180 votes in the same constituency.
In Kaputa District, Kundabwika Constituency, Hichilema garnered 4,160 votes against 3,180 votes for Mr. Mundubile.
The only constituency won by Mundubile in this batch was Feira Constituency in Luangwa District where he polled 7,885 votes while Hichilema received 4,900 votes.
In Mufumbwe District, Dongwe Constituency, Hichilema recorded 6,848 votes, and Mr. Mundubile polled 143 votes.
The latest declarations bring the total number of constituencies with official results to 4 out of 226 constituencies.
President Hichilema now has a total number of 22,476 votes with Mr. Mundubile having 14,338voted.
ECZ earlier had suspended the announcement of results nationwide on 14th August citing isolated incidents of violence and theft of ballot materials in some districts.
The Zambia Police Service has meanwhile warned the public against circulating unverified results, stating that Section 73 of the Electoral Process Act vests the declaration of presidential results in the Returning Officer.
