UPND presidential candidate, Hakainde Hichilema, is still in the lead in the August 2026 presidential election after results from a consolidated 27 of 226 constituencies were announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on Saturday.
According to the consolidated tally released Saturday, Hichilema has polled 243,509 votes while National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, has garnered 161,883 votes.
The 27 constituencies declared so far represent 11.95 percent of the total 226 constituencies nationwide and the early results show a gap of 81,626 votes between the two leading candidates, with Hichilema ahead.
Of the 27 seats reported, Mr. Hichilema won 14 constituencies while Mr. Mundubile carried 13 constituencies and the results reflect a competitive race in both urban and rural areas.
Hichilema’s strongest showing so far came from Lusaka Province where the UPND swept all 8 constituencies reported, including Lusaka Central, Matero, Munali and Kanyama.
Mundubile posted his biggest numbers from Eastern Province, which has so far delivered 10 constituencies to the NRPUP, including Petauke Central, Lundazi and Mambwe.
The Copperbelt has split between the two candidates with Bwana Mkubwa and Ndola Central going to UPND, while results from other Copperbelt seats are still pending.
In Central Province, Hichilema won Mkushi North and Kabwe Central, while Mundubile has yet to record a win in the province in the 27 seats declared.
North Western Province has also favored the UPND so far, with wins in Kabompo West and Solwezi West contributing to Hichilema’s national tally.
Muchinga Province has gone to NRPUP in the early count, with Chinsali, Chama North and Chama South in Eastern Province all declared for Mundubile.
Northern Province has recorded one result so far, with Mporokoso declared for NRPUP.
The Electoral Commission said it was working to conclude the tallying, announcement and declaration of results from the remaining 199 constituencies transparently and without unnecessary delay.
