Police in Mansa have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of killing his uncle, authorities said.
The suspect, Endrick Chitambala, is alleged to have attacked Ben Chitambala, 56, at the deceased’s residence in Chamalawa, Namwandwe Compound, Chief Mabumba’s area, on September 5.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkhondya, said the deceased sustained serious head injuries after being struck with a stone and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mansa General Hospital.
Police said the incident was reported by the deceased’s neighbour, Nelson Mofya, 44.
Brief facts are that the deceased was at his residence attending to his usual chores when Endrick arrived on a motorcycle between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, police said.

The suspect allegedly picked up a stone and, without any apparent reason, struck the deceased twice on the head.
The deceased fell to the ground, calling for help and bleeding heavily, after which community members rushed him to Mansa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The suspect was equally apprehended by members of the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) and taken to the Mental Annex at Mansa General Hospital, where he remains detained,” Munkhondya said.
Police said the suspect was reportedly a known mental health patient and had been receiving treatment since 2015. He was said to have last collected his prescribed medication from the Mental Annex on September 9.
A docket has been opened and investigations are continuing.
The body of the deceased was deposited at Mansa General Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
