The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has introduced a 20-year government bond as part of efforts to develop longer-dated financial instruments and deepen the domestic capital market.
According to a public notice issued on Thursday, the new bond will form part of Zambia’s benchmark bonds and is expected to provide a longer-term investment instrument for participants in the financial market.
BoZ Assistant Director–Communications, Besnat Mwanza, said the new instrument would facilitate the development and growth of longer-dated financial instruments in the market.

“The BoZ, acting as fiscal agent for the Government, also announced that it will offer K2.2 billion in Treasury bills and K6.3 billion in Government bonds during the fourth quarter of 2026,” she said.
Treasury bills will continue to be auctioned every two weeks, while Government bonds will be issued twice during the quarter.
The Treasury bill auctions are scheduled for October 1, October 15, October 29, November 12, November 26, December 10 and December 24.
Government bond auctions will take place on November 20 and December 18, 2026.
The introduction of the 20-year bond extends the maturity profile of Government securities available to investors and provides an additional instrument for those seeking longer-term placements.
The move comes as the domestic securities market continues to play an important role in financing Government operations and providing investment opportunities for financial institutions and other market participants.
The central bank said the auction calendar had been issued to inform the general public and market participants of the planned issuance programme for the fourth quarter.
