Zambia will use the Third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for October 28 to 29 in Moscow, to advocate for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, an end to hostilities and stronger dialogue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has arrived in Moscow, Russia, to attend the summit, representing President Hakainde Hichilema, the ministry announced in Lusaka on Tuesday.

In a statement, the ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Eva Hatontola Chanda, said Haimbe would deliver Zambia’s statement on behalf of the President during the summit.

The meeting is expected to bring together African leaders and Russian representatives to discuss cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, security, education, science and technology, and humanitarian affairs.

Chanda said Zambia’s participation presented an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia, attract investment and advance national development priorities under the Grow Zambia Agenda.

“It will also enable Zambia to contribute to discussions on equitable economic partnerships and increased investment in Africa,” she said.

On the sidelines of the summit, Haimbe is expected to participate in several meetings, including the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which will focus on economic cooperation, sovereignty and security, humanitarian affairs, technological innovation, media cooperation and youth engagement.

Chanda said the engagements were expected to identify opportunities for practical cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships.

She said Zambia would also use the summit to advance Africa’s broader commitment to peace, security and stability amid heightened global tensions.

“Zambia will further use the Summit as an opportunity to advocate for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, an end to hostilities, and the strengthening of dialogue and diplomatic engagement, in line with Africa’s broader commitment to peace, security and stability,” she said.

Chanda noted that under President Hichilema’s leadership, Zambia continued to recognise and champion lasting peace as a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable development.

She said the country’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to constructive international engagement and partnerships that promote economic transformation and sustainable development for the benefit of ordinary citizens.

Chanda added that Haimbe would also hold engagements concerning the welfare of Zambian nationals residing in Russia.

“The Summit provides a platform to advance economic diversification, industrial development, value addition, infrastructure development and technology transfer in line with national priorities,” she said.
