The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and jointly charged Gershom Chibola Yanika and Dalitso Shumba, Health Inspectors at Matero First Level Hospital and Matero Main Clinic respectively, for alleged corruption involving K125,000.

Yanika, 32, of Plot Number 2095, Chunga Government Farms, and Shumba, 34, of Kamwala South, have been jointly charged with four counts of Solicitation and Receipt of Gratification, contrary to Section 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications, Chilufya Chisanga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday and made available to Zambia Monitor.

According to the ACC, on unknown dates but between September 1, 2025, and January 23, 2026, the two health inspectors jointly and acting together solicited and received K20,000, K50,000, and K30,000 from Job Lunga Mazamba, an agronomist at Bio-Quest Agri-Science Limited.

“The gratification was allegedly received as an inducement or reward in order for them not to impose a K300,000 fine on Bio-Quest Agri-Science company shop for poor ventilation and stocking expired agro products, following an inspection that was conducted,” Chisanga said.

She added that during the same period, the duo also solicited K25,000 and actually received K5,000 from Mazamba as an inducement for themselves in order not to impose the same fine for the stated offences.

Chisanga said the two suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon.

“The Commission wishes to warn Public Service Workers against engaging in corrupt practices,” she stated.

She further expressed concern over corruption in the health inspection process, warning that it posed a direct threat to public health and safety by enabling the circulation of expired and unsafe products.

Chisanga urged members of the public to report any acts of corruption, saying public cooperation remains critical in the fight against graft.
