The Lusaka Playhouse was filled with emotion and solidarity on Wednesday night as artistes, fans, and members of the creative community gathered for a candlelight vigil in honor of the late comedian and actor Robam Mwape, widely known as Mwine Mushe.

The solemn event brought together performers, musicians, and actors who paid tribute to Mwape’s life and immense contribution to Zambia’s arts industry.

The evening featured music, poetry, and moving testimonies, with many remembering him not only for his comedic brilliance but also for his humility and warmth.

“Mwine Mushe was more than just a performer; he was a mentor, a brother, and an inspiration,” said one of the artists present. “Tonight, we honor his legacy and remind ourselves that his light will continue to shine through the lives he touched.”

Members of the public also turned up in large numbers, carrying candles and flowers as a symbol of respect.

While the atmosphere was somber, it was equally filled with gratitude for Mwape’s enduring impact on the entertainment scene.

Mwape rose to prominence through his Mwine Mushi skits, a comedy series that aired on Muvi TV alongside fellow comedian Webster Chiluba, popularly known as Kasaka.

His sharp wit, unique storytelling, and ability to capture everyday Zambian life made him a household name, admired both locally and abroad.

Beyond the laughter, Mwape was celebrated as a cultural figure who helped shape a generation of performers.

The arts fraternity has since pledged to uphold the values and creativity he stood for.

Mwape passed away on Monday, September 23, 2025, at the age of 50, at Solwezi Central Hospital.

The cause of death has not yet been made public.
