The Bank of Zambia (BOZ) has cautioned the public against content circulating on social media that falsely claims Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya has endorsed an investment platform promising unusually high returns.
BOZ Assistant Director for Communications, Besnart Mwanza, said the material, which includes a video and an online article, is fraudulent.
Mwanza explained in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday that the video is a deepfake digitally altered to imitate the Governor’s likeness and voice.
“The accompanying article is published on a fraudulent website impersonating a legitimate news outlet, and contains fabricated statements, and false claims of Government approval,” she said.
She emphasized that the Bank neither operated, endorsed, nor promoted any investment platform of this nature.
Mwanza warned that the scheme described in the video and article exhibits characteristics commonly associated with online investment scams, including promises of extremely high earnings, prompt withdrawals, minimal effort, and no underlying economic activity.
“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and verify information through official Bank of Zambia communication channels,” she said.
She further advised citizens to refrain from sharing personal information or engaging with misleading content.
Mwanza confirmed that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities for investigation.
“The Bank remains committed to safeguarding the public from financial misinformation and to upholding the integrity of the financial sector,” she assured.
