Chipolopolo reportedly hit by suspected food poisoning as coach Sichone, players sidelined in South Africa friendly

Chipolopolo coach, Moses Sichone, and several team members have been sidelined from today’s friendly match following a suspected food poisoning incident, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed.

FAZ General- Secretary, Machacha Shepande, said Technical Committee Vice Chairperson, Kalusha Bwalya, yes, is also among those affected and has remained at the team hotel, where medical staff are attending to him alongside the affected players and officials.

The update was issued in a statement released by FAZ Head of Communications and Media Nkweto Tembwe, as reported by ZNBC.

“We wish to inform our members and stakeholders that our Head Coach Mr. Moses Sichone, Video Analyst Elias Chipota and some players will not participate in the friendly game due to suspected food poisoning,” Shepande stated.

Despite the setback, the match will proceed as scheduled, with assistant coach Perry Mutapa taking charge.

He will be supported by Noel Mwandila, Kennedy Mweene, and Joseph Musonda.

Shepande added that some team members had recovered in time to feature in the match, which kicks off at 15:00 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

He further wished all affected players and staff a speedy recovery.
