Claims of discrepancies in poll results halt Matero vote announcement

Confusion has erupted at Matero Boys Secondary School in Lusaka, the official totalling centre for Matero Constituency, after Resolute Party parliamentary candidate Patrick Salubusa challenged the results being announced by the Returning Officer.

Salubusa alleged that figures recorded on the official GEN 20 forms from polling stations did not match the results presented during the constituency totalling process.

He also questioned the presidential results, urging the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to suspend the exercise to allow the alleged discrepancies to be verified before the process continued.

Following the concerns, the ECZ temporarily halted the vote totalling process for about 10 minutes. Proceedings had not resumed by the time of publication.

Salubusa is among the frontrunners in the Matero parliamentary race, alongside UPND candidate Alexander Mumba Sakala, in a contest involving four candidates.

ECZ has however said that official results from Metero constituency have not yet been announced.
