Comprehensive approach needed for urban health services, says Ministry of Health

Government says a comprehensive approach is critical to addressing systematic challenges and ensuring sustainable health service delivery, particularly in high-density urban communities.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, said the demand for quality health services such as HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services remained high.

Lishimpi said this during the launch of AIDS Healthcare Foundation support to ART Sites in Lusaka at Kalinga Clinic on Saturday.

He said government, through the Ministry, remained resolute in its commitment to enhancing healthcare systems and improving patient outcomes.

“Supported sites will play a significant role in improving early diagnosis and ensuring timely initiation of treatment as well as adherence to therapy,” Lishimpi stated.

He underlined that prevention efforts should remain at the forefront, especially among adolescents and young people.

The supported sites include Kalinga Clinic and other ART centres in Lusaka, which will benefit from additional resources to strengthen service delivery.

‎AHF Africa Bureau Chief, Martin Matabishi, said South Africa and Mozambique housed the highest number of people living with HIV in the Southern region.

“Owing to that fact, the Federation intends to open up more sites around the country aimed at increasing the uptake of HIV patients because of migratory issues,” Matabishi said.
