The Copper Queens have climbed to top of Group B at the ongoing 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.

This was after recording an impressive 3-1 win over neighbours Angola.

A Sara Jere brace and a Jackline Nkole goal ensured that the Copper Queens carried the day.

Angola scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute but it proved too little, too late.

The Copper Queens go top of Group B on four points and will play their last group match against Comoros on Tuesday 10 October, 2023.

Zambia started on a good note and their early pressure paid off three minutes into the match when Angola goalkeeper Rita Gabriela Luis Jose failed to deal with a free kick, which made Jere capitalise to draw first blood.

Zambia continued to apply pressure and in the 20th minute, the Copper Queens added a deserved second goal when Nkole’s long range effort was too good for the Angola goalie.

An improved Angola side in the second half could not do anything to stop Jere from scoring her second goal of the match after Evarine Katongo set her up with an assist to make the score 3-nil.

Angola pulled one back through Luvunga after a blunder by Leticia Lungu but it was too late.

The win takes Zambia to the top of the group with 4 points as they wait for the result between Mozambique and Comoros.
