Crystal Palace wallop Liverpool 3-0 as Sarr’s brace sends Eagles into Carabao cup quarters

Liverpool suffered a sixth defeat in seven matches as Ismaïla Sarr’s brace inspired Crystal Palace to a 3-0 victory and a place in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

The Eagles outclassed the Reds for the third time this season, adding to their Community Shield shootout triumph and last month’s Premier League win at Selhurst Park.

According to ESPN, Sarr struck twice before halftime and Yeremy Pino sealed the result late on as Palace, the FA Cup holders, cruised past the reigning Premier League champions at Anfield.

Coach Arne Slot’s decision to make 10 changes backfired before a frustrated home crowd.

The loss extended Liverpool’s poor run, which began with defeat at Selhurst Park just over a month ago, while Palace’s impressive form under Glasner continued as they chased another piece of silverware.

Liverpool started brightly, with debutant Kieran Morrison heading over and teenager Rio Ngumoha testing the visitors’ defense.

But Sarr, a constant tormentor, made the difference — netting his seventh and eighth goals in nine games against Liverpool.

Sarr’s first came in the 41st minute when Joe Gomez’s clearance inadvertently set him up to drive low past debutant goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

Four minutes later, Sarr combined neatly with Pino to double Palace’s advantage.

Despite Liverpool’s attempts to rally after the break, Palace remained in control.

Sarr was denied a hat-trick by Woodman before being withdrawn on the hour mark ahead of Saturday’s league clash with Brentford.

Slot introduced several youngsters, including Wellity Lucky and Amara Nallo, but the latter’s night ended early after a 79th-minute red card for bringing down Justin Devenny.

Palace compounded Liverpool’s misery when Pino struck his first goal for the club in the 88th minute, sealing a commanding victory and deepening the scrutiny on Slot’s tenure.
