The Zambia Police Service says it has made significant progress in investigations surrounding the aggravated robbery and murder that occurred in the early hours of July 17, 2025, at Rubis Filling Station in Hellen Kaunda area.

In a statement issued today, Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed that eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the brutal attack, which resulted in the death of a female fuel attendant, Sibeso Akaliwa, and left her colleague, Mapalo Mwelwa, 25, seriously injured.

According to police, the incident happened around 03:00 hours when a gang of criminals descended on the station, attacked the workers, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the day’s sales.

In a shocking twist, two of the suspects arrested are security guards who were on duty the night of the incident but were notably absent from the scene after the crime occurred, raising suspicion of inside involvement.

Hamoonga stated that the Anti-Robbery Squad launched a swift and intensive investigation that led to the arrests.

Efforts are now underway to recover the weapons, clothing, and other items used in the crime to strengthen the case during prosecution.

“The Zambia Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators involved in this brutal and senseless act are brought to justice,” Hamoonga said, calling on members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing relevant information.

He assured the public that more updates would be shared as investigations continue.
