Ex-District Commissioner calls for accountability in management of public resources

Former Siavonga District Commissioner, Lovemore Kanyama, has urged the Zambia police to monitor local authorities closely.

He also advised security agencies to oversee council buildings and individuals within councils who may attempt to conceal evidence of misconduct.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Kanyama spoke on the importance of holding accountable those who have misused or abused Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources.

He encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report individuals engaging in corrupt activities.

He further called for discipline among local authorities, noting those entrusted with managing government funds, adding that these funds belong to the Zambian people who have the right to know how they were utilised.

He also warned individuals who have received CDF funds to repay them if they have not been utilised properly, emphasizing that the government was committed to ensuring accountability in its programmes.

Furthermore, Kanyama appealed to those who have received CDF loans and grants not to disappoint the government which aimed to promote self-reliance among Zambians through the funding.
