The government has denied claims circulating on various social media platforms regarding the rumoured passage of the former vice president, Dr Guy Scott.

Social media was early morning of Tuesday, April 23, 2024, awash with news on the passing of Scott with netizens left to speculate what caused his death.

A visit to his residence in Lusaka’s New Kasama area on the same day by Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, revealed the opposite.

“Spreading false and misleading information, especially regarding someone’s health or passing, is highly irresponsible and unacceptable,” the Permanent Secretary said.

He urged individuals in the habit of spreading false information to refrain from doing so as they do not only cause unnecessary distress but also panic among family members and friends of the affected persons.

Kawana wished the former vice president good health and longevity.

“I wish to remind members of the public to uphold integrity and responsibility as they share information on their various social media platforms,” he advised.
