Forensic probe shows Why Me’s TikTok videos were not AI-generated, cyber security expert tells court

A cyber security expert has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that TikTok videos in which Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as Why Me, is allegedly seen hurling insults were created by Kapwepwe himself and not generated using artificial intelligence.

Testifying before the court, Nawa Samatebele, Director of Cyber Security at ZICTA, said forensic analysis confirmed the videos were authentic human-generated content.

Samatebele told the court that at the time he handled the case, he served as Director for Infrastructure and Resilience.

He said four video clips were submitted through a proper chain of custody and subsequently subjected to forensic examination. The courtroom gallery reacted with visible disbelief as the videos were played.

Samatebele explained that digital forensic images were created from the seized devices to preserve the integrity of the evidence. The clips were then compared with versions found online on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.

According to his testimony, eight out of eleven videos matched content already available online. Using forensic tools and Deepware AI detection software, investigators found no evidence of manipulation or AI-generated media.

Further analysis of devices recovered from the accused—including a Samsung Galaxy phone and an iPhone 15 Pro Max—revealed social media accounts linked to Kapwepwe, including a TikTok page named Why Me – The Lion of the World.

Samatebele said the findings were handed over to police for further action.

In the first charge, prosecutors allege that on March 31, 2025, Kapwepwe used his TikTok platform to post hate speech against the Tonga people, referring to Vice President Mutale Nalumango in derogatory terms and accusing her of allowing President Hakainde Hichilema to “take Tongas to Kaputa District” without objection.

In the second count, it is alleged that on April 3, 2025, he again used TikTok to issue remarks against the people of Southern Province, claiming the President intended to install Chief Mukuni as a king and suggesting that the province should be separated from Zambia.

The third count alleges that on April 8, 2025, he uttered vulgar remarks against the people of Southern Province, describing them in obscene and derogatory terms.
