Government has announced plans to generate 10,000 megawatts of power by 2031 and is streamlining approval processes to accelerate investments in the energy sector.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, said several interventions had been introduced to stimulate investment, including reduced approval times for solar project applications and fiscal incentives.

Speaking during the Zambia–Turkey business breakfast in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mulenga said government had also established the Public-Private Dialogue Forum (PPDF) to enhance coordination and engagement between the state and investors.

The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment that supports sustainable economic growth.

“As a government, we are committed to improving the country’s business environment, and at this point let me extend the Zambian government’s invitation to Turkish businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country,” Mulenga stated.

He highlighted key sectors such as energy, manufacturing, mining, construction and agriculture, noting that policy and structural reforms were being implemented to attract new investment.

Mulenga further disclosed that his Ministry was advancing business licensing reforms aimed at reducing the cost of doing business, easing compliance burdens and boosting regional trade.

He cited the fertilizer sub-sector as an example of successful reform, noting that Zambia had moved from being heavily import-dependent to becoming a net exporter.

“This achievement demonstrates what is possible and inspires our efforts in other priority sectors such as energy, agriculture and manufacturing,” he said.

The Zambia–Turkey business breakfast reportedly aims to deepen bilateral relations, with 25 agreements already signed to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.
