Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, says the government will engage investigators to establish the whereabouts of funds allocated for the construction of Ntumpa University in Northern Province.

Speaking shortly after inspecting the site where the university was intended to be built on Monday, Musokotwane expressed shock at the lack of progress, noting that only a small wall had been constructed despite the significance of the project.

He explained that the proposed Ntumpa University, located in Lukashya Constituency in Kasama District, was initiated by the previous administration in 2017.

“It was poised to be a major public institution situated on 400 hectares of land, however, the project stalled in 2018,” he said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.

Musokotwane added that the government would work with investigative agencies to determine how much money was allocated and which contractors were involved.

“It is disappointing that leaders given the mandate to develop rural areas would choose to misappropriate funds,” the Minister stated.

He stressed the need for society to safeguard public resources, warning that without accountability and integrity, national development is impossible.

Meanwhile, a local resident, Joseph Mumbi, has called for transparency, demanding a full explanation from the previous administration regarding the missing funds.
