Green Buffaloes shine at Windhoek Doc tournament in Namibia

Green Buffaloes Volleyball Club made a strong start to the Windhoek Doc Tournament on March 28, 2026, with the men’s side recording dominant back-to-back victories over Brutal Pact, winning 2-0 in both matches.

The Butaah Boys controlled the opening match from start to finish, cruising to a 25-12 and 25-09 victory before maintaining their momentum in the second encounter, where they secured another convincing win with set scores of 25-08 and 25-12.

The women’s team also delivered a commanding performance, overpowering NUST Elites in straight sets to underline their early title ambitions.

The Butaah Girls comfortably claimed the first match with 25-06 and 25-10 set scores before sealing the second contest 25-13 and 25-12 to cap off a successful opening day for the Zambian champions.

The tournament is serving as an important preparatory platform for the women’s team ahead of the upcoming African Club Championship in Egypt, following their gold medal triumph at the Zone Six Club Championship held in Polokwane in 2025.

Head Coach Luckson Mazumbo, assisted by Kelvin Chibale, assembled a strong men’s squad featuring Lance Corporal Wanji Siame Tressy, Muyunda Muyunda and Private Akakandelwa Charles as middle blockers.

The Zimbabwean duo of Panashe Sangonya and Apronage Ngorima are expected to play key roles as opposite and outside hitters respectively, while Lance Corporal Chama Clement and new signing Didier are handling setter duties.

Defensive responsibilities are being led by Lance Corporal Phiri Simon, with Joshua Bukali, Josua Tembo and Lance Corporal Mwenya Brighton providing additional attacking options.

In the women’s category, Coach Mazumbo selected Annie Hamooya and Odety Tembo as setters, while Lance Corporal Nankamba Alice and Lydia Nabutola are featuring as opposite and outside hitters.

Sergeant Isabel Mudenda and Lance Corporal Limpo Mumbotwa are anchoring the middle blocking roles, with Tendai Zulu serving as libero.

Additional depth in the squad is being provided by Private Brenda Mulenga and Daisy Mweetwa.

The Windhoek Doc Tournament, hosted in Swakopmund, has attracted 23 teams in the men’s category, with Green Buffaloes drawn in Pool D alongside.
