Christian Democratic Party (CDP) leader Danny Pule has returned from his 2 years political sabbatical leave and announced his party’s readiness to take part in the 2026 presidential and general elections.

Addressing Journalists at a media briefing on Wednesday in Lusaka, Pule said his return to the political arena has been prompted by the failure by the current new dawn government to fulfill its campaign promises such as reduced cost of mealie meal, fuel prices among others.

He said the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration has failed to also deliver on reducing the cost of electricity, create jobs for youths, address Kwacha volatility and unite the country.

Pule said the UPND government has also clearly abandoned the country’s Christian and cultural values by encouraging gays and Lesbians.

“It is also clear that the government has failed to manage our economy as can be seen by the failure to supply agricultural inputs on time and as far as the cost of living is concerned, Zambians are worse off today than they were in August 2021, when President Hakainde Hichilema took over,” he said.

Pule who was a strong supporter of the former President Edgar Lungu said his come back is based on principles and morals as enshrined in the Zambian and party constitution and should not be linked to the reported come back of the sixth Republican President into the political scenery.

He said the party’s principles are centered on preferential treatment of the poor and vulnerable, distribute justice for all, including respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms of expression which is currently missing.

“The economy is in a poorer state now than it was at the beginning of the UPND government, further, our country has never been more divided than it is now as can be seen by presidential appointments,” he said.
