Socialist Party (SP) candidate in the upcoming Chitimukulu ward by-election, Ruth Luapula, says United Party for National Development (UNDP) should concentrate on selling its candidate than engaging in personal attack.

During a meeting to drum up support for UPND candidate, Solomon Banda, last week, Local Government Minister Gary Nkombo was heard in a video posted on various social media platforms accusing Luapula of not having a fixed abode and he wanted to know her house number.

But Luapula wants the Minister to concentrate on selling the UPND candidate rather than wanting to know where she lives.

“I can’t show him where I live for what, my concentration is to campaign and I am happy that the pro-poor socialist messages are sinking well with the electorates,” Luapula said in an interview on Sunday.

She said once elected, she would push for by-laws that would facilitate greening of the environment while facilitating and initiating garbage collection systems that would allow for the separation of garbage according to the type.

Seven candidates have reportedly successfully filed nominations in a by-election slated for April 19, 2023, necessitated by the death of UPND’s Maureen Bwalya.

Luapula also said campaigns had been incidence free since the campaign started two weeks ago.

The 23-year-old candidate was confident of scooping the seat saying the messages of ‘hope’ was being received well by the community.
