The internal squabbles within Patriotic Front (PF) may take a turn for the worse as Mafinga lawmaker, Robert Chabinga, has warned that the party Secretariat on Panganani Road in Lusaka would be closed immediately upon his return from constituency duties.
Speaking at a media briefing in his Constituency on Wednesday and monitored by Zambia Monitor, the self proclaimed acting PF president said the move was in a renewed focus on party operations and discipline among members.
Chabinga also dismissed the TONSE Alliance as a “non-starter,” questioning the logic of seeking guidance from those he deemed unprepared to offer it.
He reaffirmed the party’s support for President Hakainde Hichilema, advising Zambians not to change the winning team come 2026.
“You did not change the winning team. The focus should be on the 2031 elections, rather than 2026 which has already been won by President Hichilema and the UPND,” Chabinga said.
He embraced being called a “praise singer” and suggested that he should be referred to as the “choir master,” for the current leadership under President Hichilema.
Chabinga restated that the PF’s Alliance was with the UPND, not TONSE Alliance and people should not make a big mistake to recognize the other faction which had no legal mandate.
“We should not allow our emotions to dictate our actions, particularly when it comes to court cases but ensure that we approach legal matters with a level head,” he emphasized.
The self-proclaimed acting president also dismissed claims of being power hungry, stating, “I’m not power hungry at all but I just want the right thing to be done and that is for Zambians to continue trusting President Hichilema and his vision.”
He expressed confidence in Zambia’s economic progress under Hichilema’s leadership, highlighting programmes being implemented such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Chabinga described the President as a “proper economic driver,” expressing optimism about the country’s economic trajectory.
He also called on the church to pray for the country as it approached elections, acknowledging the significance of the period.
