The Kawambwa Town Council has reportedly commenced full rehabilitation works on the 12-kilometre Kawambwa–Kaani Road in Ng’ona Ward, Kawambwa Central Constituency.
The project, being implemented by the Council’s Department of Engineering and Fire Services Unit, is expected to be completed within 60 days.
According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, the project forms part of the local authority’s broader programme to improve road infrastructure and enhance access to social amenities across the district.
Council Chairperson, Titus Musa, said the road is key to the district’s economic activities, particularly agriculture, as Kaani is one of Kawambwa’s major farming zones.
“Once completed, this road will ease movement, boost trade, and improve access to essential services such as schools and health centres,” Musa said.
He said the project supported the government’s rural development agenda and welcomed plans to increase the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to K40 million in 2026, saying it would accelerate infrastructure projects.
Council Director of Engineering Services , Brian Nkhoma, said the works included clearing, road formation, culvert installation, and the application of two gravel layers.
“The project will greatly improve access to markets and health facilities while restoring public confidence in local infrastructure delivery,” he said.
