Leeds salvage 1–1 draw at Brentford, move clear of relegation zone

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for the fourth consecutive Premier League game as Leeds United came from behind to draw 1–1 at Brentford, moving three points clear of the relegation zone.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke’s substitutions proved decisive, with Wilfried Gnonto delivering a precise cross for Calvert-Lewin to head in the 82nd-minute equaliser after Jordan Henderson had opened the scoring for Brentford earlier in the half.

In a match reported by SkySportsy, earlier results favoured Leeds, with West Ham’s defeat ensuring the visitors could not be pulled back into the relegation zone.

Leeds also became the first team to take points off Brentford at home since Manchester City in October.

VAR played a key role when Brentford were denied a penalty after it was ruled that Gabriel Gudmundsson had fouled Dango Ouattara in the box. The decision, though correct, took several minutes to confirm.

Brentford, unbeaten in their previous three home games, were below expectations, and the draw extended the gap between them and the relegation zone to seven points.

For Leeds, the point was a calmer result compared with recent high-scoring games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, in which they scored eight goals and earned four points.

The draw leaves Leeds three games unbeaten in the Premier League for the first time since the 2022/23 season.

Calvert-Lewin’s continued scoring run highlights his importance as Leeds fight to maintain top-flight safety, with the club now holding crucial breathing room over the relegation zone.
