Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United played out a dramatic 2-2 draw in north London on Saturday afternoon, as late goals from Richarlison and Matthijs de Ligt capped off a thrilling Premier League contest.

The visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute when Bryan Mbeumo met a teasing cross into the box and expertly guided his header past Guglielmo Vicario to give United a deserved advantage.

According to the New York Times, Spurs struggled to create clear chances in the first half, but came out stronger after the interval.

Still, United goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced two outstanding saves to preserve his side’s lead — first diving low to deny Cristian Romero from close range in the 53rd minute, and then blocking Joao Palhinha’s fierce half-volley just two minutes later.

The hosts finally found a way through in the 84th minute when substitute Mathys Tel turned sharply inside the box before rifling a powerful shot high into the net to level the score.

Tottenham then looked to have completed a late turnaround as Richarlison got the faintest of headers to Wilson Odobert’s long-range effort a minute into stoppage time, sending the home fans into wild celebration.

But United refused to give in. Deep into added time, centre-back Matthijs de Ligt rose highest at the back post to nod home from a corner in the 96th minute, rescuing a point for the visitors and silencing the home crowd.

The result leaves both teams with plenty to reflect on — Spurs will rue their inability to hold onto a late lead, while United will take pride in their fighting spirit that earned them a valuable away draw.
