The government has announced the handover of a modern macro-burn incinerator to Mbala General Hospital in Northern Province, aimed at strengthening biomedical waste management in the region.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Northern Province Minister, Leonard Mbao, said the installation of the incinerator would help tackle hazardous waste disposal challenges, ensuring that infectious and chemical waste was managed safely, efficiently, and in line with established health and environmental standards.
The project was delivered through a public-private partnership involving the Ministry of Health, First National Bank (FNB) Zambia, and Right to Care Zambia.
Minister Mbao commended the private sector’s role in national development, particularly in enhancing community health and well-being.

Provincial Health Director, Professor Ernest Mutale, praised the initiative for improving healthcare infrastructure, enhancing safety for healthcare workers and patients, and minimizing environmental risks.
Right to Care Zambia Country Director, Dr. Ben Chirwa, noted that the facility would boost safe waste disposal and infection control efforts across health centers in the region.
Meanwhile, FNB Zambia Head of Corporate Investment Banking, Luyanga Mufungulwa, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that promote access to quality healthcare in a safe and well-equipped environment.
