Football fans on social media have demanded the sacking of Chipolopolo coach, Avram Grant, after Zambia crashed out of the 2023 Cote D’Ivoire Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia were eliminated at the group stage after losing to Morocco one goal to nil when they only needed a draw to qualify to the last 16 phase of the tournament.

Chipolopolo fans did not take kindly the result with some of them on social media calling on either Grant’s resignation or sack.

“Future is bright. Shkulu must rest. Big Mo take over,” posted one Facebook user.

Another Facebook said: “Sekuru! He’s stylo no good he should leave it’s mo than just he’s result..”

One X, formerly Twitter, user, took a swipe at Grant by making reference to his English Premier League side Chelsea stint.

“Coach waba chelsea and you expect to win 😔.”

However, in the midst of disappointment, others encouraged the national team.

President Hakainde Hichilema urged the team to be proud of themselves.

“Hard luck boys.

We have bowed out.

Carry your heads high.

We’ll try again, and again and again,” the Head of State posted on his official Facebook account.

Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe applauded the team for their efforts despite the loss

“Zambia tough game yesterday. But remember, we win as a team, and we lose as a team. Losses are part of the game. #Chipolopolo keep your heads up. We are proud of the effort you put in.

You are a good team,” M’membe posted via his X account.

Zambian songstress Mampi was among the positive comments on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) page.

“Awe bayesako but 🇿🇲💪🏿 proudly Zambian 💯.”
