Murder case: Akafekwa, denies killing 10-year-old Chikondi

Nalukui Akafekwa has told the Lusaka High Court that he had no hand in the death of a 10-year-old , Chikondi Banda.

This is in a matter Akafekwa, 28, of Garden compound is alleged to have abducted and later murdered Chikondi last year and dumped his body in a maize field behind Emmasdale Police camp.

Akafekwa was on Thursday found with a case to answer and placed on defence by Judge Mwape Bowa.

In his defence, the accused testified that on March 16 and 17, 2023, on the dates Chikondi is suspected to have been murdered, he was at home with his wife and in-laws in Garden compound along Katimamulilo road.

He told the court that on the said dates, he had a misunderstanding with his father, leading him to spend a night at his friend, Jackson.

Akafekwa said he was apprehended from his friend’s house by the police who beat him up with an iron bar.

He said the police took him to the crime seen and told him what to say.

“I was taken to the crime scene in the maize field. I was not with Chikondi. I don’t know what was happening. I was told to say that’s where I killed him. I refused but I was told I had no power to refuse. I didn’t know what they were investigating for them to take me to all those places,” he said.

Akafekwa, however, admitted that the clothes and bag packs presented to court were his.
