The Office of the Vice President has strongly condemned falsehoods being circulated by the opposition, which it said were attempting to manufacture a narrative of discord between President Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President Dr. Mutale Nalumango.

Njenje Chizu, Press Aide in the Office of the Vice President, called on the police and other law-enforcement agencies to trace and take action against individuals using social media to spread the claims.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Chizu cited a recent instance in which certain individuals fabricated claims suggesting that the Vice President was nearly involved in an “arranged plane clash” intended to harm her.

“Such reckless propaganda is not only baseless but also poses a direct threat to national peace and security,” he said.

Chizu urged Zambians to reject any agenda, however subtle or sensational, that seeks to sow division between the Head of State and the Vice President. “These schemes are dangerous, irresponsible, and must be condemned by all well-meaning citizens,” he said.

“As Press Aide, I have accompanied the Vice President from the very beginning of her ongoing tour of duty assessing the impact of floods in Northern, Eastern, and Luapula Provinces,” Chizu stated. He added that at no point had there been any attempt on her life, nor had any aircraft in her entourage experienced or come close to an accident.

Chizu issued a stern warning to individuals who continued to spread lies for political gain, saying they were in serious conflict with the law.

“The dissemination of such fabrications, especially those touching on matters of national security, will not be tolerated,” he said.
