Record 13-time MTN Super League champions Nkana FC on Saturday finally registered their first victory of the season, edging Green Buffaloes 1-0 at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
Congolese striker Idris Mbombo struck in the 63rd minute with a semi-diving header off a cross from national team call-up Mathews Banda, sending the home fans into jubilation.
The result brought relief for the Wusakile giants after two consecutive draws, pushing their tally to five points.
For Buffaloes, it was a second straight defeat, following last weekend’s loss to Kitwe rivals and defending champions Power Dynamos.

Despite the setback, coach Aggrey Chiyangi said he saw positives in the performance compared to their previous outing, though he rued missed chances.
Elsewhere, ZANACO FC secured a crucial 1-0 away win over Prison Leopards in Kabwe, thanks to Idana Chimwemwe’s 48th-minute strike.
Coach Mumamba Numba hailed the victory as motivating but admitted his midfield and defence still needed tightening.
At Independence Stadium in Solwezi, Konkola Blades took an early lead through Kelvin Kapumbu’s header, but Kansanshi Dynamos hit back as Dalitso Lungu netted his team’s first goal of the season from a Joseph Chomba assist.
In Lusaka, NAPSA Stars grabbed their first lead of the campaign through Rally Bwalya in the fourth minute, but Ricky Banda salvaged a point for Red Arrows with a late equaliser eight minutes from time.
In Mazabuka, FC Muza continued their impressive form, defeating Mutondo Stars 1-0 at Nakambala Stadium courtesy of a strike from Chanda Chileshe.
Meanwhile in Ndola, ZESCO United came from behind to draw 1-1 with Green Eagles. Moses Phiri gave Eagles the lead, but Freddy Michael equalised for ZESCO in the 19th minute.
