Patriotic Front (PF) faction Secretary General, Raphael Nakachinda, has been ordered to open his defence after the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court ruled that he has a case to answer in a hate speech charge.

Nakachinda is accused of referring to President Hakainde Hichilema and the people of Bweengwa as “ignorant,” remarks prosecutors say were not only offensive but also capable of fuelling division in the country.

Principal Resident Magistrate, Idah Phiri, ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him, thereby compelling Nakachinda to defend himself.

In his bid to clear his name, Nakachinda is expected to call 10 witnesses when trial commences on October 20, 2025.

He faces a charge of expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt on the grounds of race, tribe, place of origin, or colour, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
