Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General, Raphael Nakachinda, has claimed that the party’s Acting President, Given Lubinda, is also serving as Chairperson of the Tonse Alliance because the PF is the anchor party mandated to produce a presidential candidate.
Nakachinda reiterated that a transparent process would be followed in selecting a successor to the late Sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu.
Speaking during an appearance on Diamond Television on Monday night, Nakachinda said the PF remained the leading party within the alliance, as stipulated in its constitution.
“All I can say is that Given Lubinda is the Acting Tonse Alliance Chairperson by virtue of being PF Acting President, because PF is the anchor party that is supposed to produce a presidential candidate,” Nakachinda stated.
He added that, in his dual role as Secretary General of both PF and Tonse Alliance, he would ensure a transparent process in selecting the alliance’s next leader to guide the party into the next general election.
“President Lungu was a transparent person. We are going to follow his legacy as we work to find a successor in both the PF and the Tonse Alliance,” he said.
Nakachinda also called on party members to maintain unity as they mourned the late former President.
“We should shame our critics by handling the succession period with peace and unity. Many expect the party to crumble during this time, but we must rise above that and remain united,” he added.
