Police in Lusaka have launched investigations into a shooting incident that occurred on February 1, 2026, at around 22:30 hours at Yun Ding Bar, located in Kenneth Kaunda Shopping Mall in the Longacres area.

On February 2, 2026, Police received a report from Li Zhong Cheng, aged 38, a Chinese national residing in Longacres. He stated that an altercation had taken place at the bar while he was with his wife and his brother.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the incident began when an unidentified Chinese male was leaning on Mr. Li’s white Toyota Prado, registration number AJF 997.

“When Wang Li asked the man to move so they could drive away, he allegedly made an obscene remark, leading to a physical confrontation,” Chilabi said.

Police officers at the mall intervened and instructed Li to leave. However, while driving away, an unidentified male reportedly jumped onto the vehicle’s bonnet to prevent it from leaving.

“Mr. Li reportedly heard gunshots, fled the scene and the person later fell off the bonnet within the mall premises,” he said.

Preliminary Police investigations indicate that as the vehicle reached the second car park, another unidentified person, suspected to be a Chinese national, allegedly fired shots at the vehicle.

Police inspection revealed that the vehicle had four gunshot impacts, but no injuries were reported.

“The scene was processed, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. No arrests have been made so far,” Chilabi added.
