Police launch manhunt for suspects involved in shooting of clinical officer in Nyimba district

Police in Eastern province are investigating a murder case in which a Clinical Officer at Nyimba District Urban Clinic, Amos Chanda, was shot dead by unknown people.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, said Chanda, 36, was shot at by unknown assailants while seated in his living room where he was watching television with his family.

Mwale in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, stated that the suspects disappeared after shooting the victim twice in the head.

He said Police officers who rushed to the scene found the victim seated in the sofa in the living room of his house with blood coming from the fatal gunshot wounds he sustained.

“He was immediately moved to Nyimba District Hospital where he was declared deceased upon arrival,” Mwale stated.

He said Police initial crime scene investigations indicated that the assailants shot the victim from outside through the window which had its glass pane broken.

“The incident happened on March 29, 2024 around 21:00 hours at Nyimba District Urban Clinic Compound,” Mwale added.

He stated that the body was in the same hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

“The motive behind the killing is not yet established as investigations to find the suspects have been launched,” Mwale said.
