The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka has recorded a road traffic accident in which seven passengers were injured after a bus crashed along the Great North Road near Ngwerere Roundabout.
The accident occurred at about 04:50 hours on December 30, 2025, while the bus was heading towards Chisamba, according to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi.
Chilabi said the accident involved a Zhongtong bus, registration number BBC 4497, belonging to B.A. Logistics and driven by Chitalu Gift, aged 31.
“There were seven passengers on board, all of whom sustained various injuries,” Chilabi said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.

The injured passengers were rushed to Matero Level One Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the bus due to excessive speed.
“The bus first hit a street light pole on the left side of the road before ramming into a nearby shop,” Chilabi said.
Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
Chilabi appealed to motorists to observe traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed and exercise caution to prevent road accidents.
In a similar incident, Chilabi said three people have sustained injuries in an accident which was recorded in Serenje District of Central Province.
“The incident occurred today, December 30, 2025, at around 11:30 hours at Chito area, about 120 kilometres east of Serenje Central Business District along the Great North Road,” he said.
Chilabi stated that the accident involved a Scania Public Service Bus, registration number BAC 811, belonging to Juldan Motors, driven by Alban Lungu, aged 42, of Lusaka. The bus was heading towards Mpika District with 52 passengers on board.
He said also involved was a Howo truck, registration number T314 DSY, with trailer number T852 EGV, belonging to Overland Tanzania, driven by Nyavatura Abkardo Simon, aged 27, a Tanzanian national.
“The truck was carrying sulphur and was travelling in the opposite direction,” Chilabi stated.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus driver was over speeding and failed to negotiate a curve leading to the bus colliding with the rear trailer of the oncoming truck, lost control, and overturned.
Chilabi said the bus driver and two passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to Chitambo Mission Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
“The remaining passengers were unharmed. Investigations into the accident are ongoing,” he said.
